Lamai is Koh Samui's second beach resort, on the east coast of the island: a long sandy bay, clear water and a slightly more down-to-earth, relaxed atmosphere than Chaweng. At the southern end of the beach, the famous Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks draw visitors, and the higher ground behind the bay offers views over both the sea and the jungle. In the evening, the centre comes alive around its restaurants and bars, without the frenzy of Chaweng.

The centre of Lamai is lively and has everything you need day to day: Thai and Western restaurants, cafés, supermarkets, a fresh market every day and a night market every evening. Lamai is also known for its gyms, Muay Thai camps and wellness retreats, which attract visitors for long stays. Families have an international school right in the neighbourhood, and the international hospitals in Chaweng are 15–20 minutes away.

In terms of access, Chaweng and Central Samui shopping centre are 15–20 minutes away by car and the airport 25–30 minutes. The “shortcut” mountain road links Lamai to Maenam and the north coast far faster than driving all the way round the island by the coast road. To the south, Hua Thanon and the Na Muang waterfalls are just a few minutes away.

The market is one of the most dynamic on the island: pool villas in the hills, from 1-bedroom villas to 4-bedroom family homes, sea-view villas on the higher ground, and apartments a few minutes from the beach. Prices here remain more affordable than on the north coast, and strong, sustained demand from visitors makes Lamai an attractive choice, whether you want to live here or rent your property out, with good rental potential.
