South of Lamai, Hua Thanon is a traditional fishing village, one of the most authentic on Koh Samui. Here there are no resorts and no nightlife to speak of: just quiet village streets, hills covered in jungle and coconut palms, and a slow, unhurried pace of life.

The area suits buyers who are looking for peace, quiet and nature. The hills behind the village are home to villas surrounded by greenery, with views over the jungle and sometimes the sea. The Na Muang waterfalls, among the most beautiful on the island, are around 10 minutes away, and the wilder south coast is right next door, waiting to be explored: its small bays, such as Laem Set, remain some of the most peaceful on Samui.

For everyday needs, everything Lamai has to offer is 5–10 minutes away: supermarkets, restaurants, gyms, an international school and markets. Chaweng and its international hospitals are around 25 minutes away by car, and the airport 30–35 minutes. From Lamai, the “shortcut” mountain road means you can reach the north coast far faster than driving all the way round the island.

The market here is small: mainly detached pool villas in the hills, often on larger plots than elsewhere, at gentler prices than you will find on the north coast or in Chaweng. You often get more space and privacy here than elsewhere: no residential complex, no shared walls, just the jungle around the pool.
