Chaweng, Koh Samui.
The island's liveliest beach, with resorts, restaurants and hillside sea-view villas.

Chaweng is Koh Samui's best-known beach: a long arc of white sand running along the east coast, with turquoise water and resorts lining the whole bay. It is the liveliest centre on the island, with its restaurants, beach clubs, bars and shops. But there is more to Chaweng than its beach: behind it, Chaweng Lake and the hills shelter quieter residential neighbourhoods with wide views over the bay. In the evening the beach comes alive, but you only need to head up into the hills or settle on the lake side to find peace and quiet again.
It is also the most complete neighbourhood on Samui when it comes to everyday life. Central Samui shopping centre, the large supermarkets, banks, the island's main international hospitals, gyms and international schools are all a few minutes away. Restaurants serving every kind of cuisine, cafés and shops stay open late, all year round. Healthcare is covered too: specialist consultations and hospital stays are available locally, so there is no need to leave the island.
In terms of access, the airport is 10 minutes away, Choeng Mon and Bophut 10–15 minutes, and Lamai 15–20 minutes along the coast road. For a calmer swim, the quieter beaches of Chaweng Noi and Crystal Bay lie just to the south.
The market is varied: pool villas in residences with a gym and services, family villas close to the schools, and sea-view villas on the hillsides, a few minutes from the beach. Chaweng suits those who want everything within easy reach, whether they plan to live there all year round or simply want a pied-à-terre on the island, with good rental potential driven by the steady flow of visitors to the island throughout the year.
